How many years ahead of AD is BS?
Bikram Sambat runs about 56 years and 8 months ahead of the Gregorian calendar — 2026 AD falls mostly in 2082–2083 BS. But you cannot convert a date by adding 56 years and shifting a few months, because the two calendars start on different days and the BS months are not fixed lengths.
Why can’t a Nepali date be calculated with a formula?
Because BS month lengths are decreed, not computed. A month can be 29, 30, 31 or 32 days, and the pattern changes from year to year. Any working converter carries a table of the real lengths for every year it covers; there is no arithmetic that derives them.
